Proudly based in Kallangur, Brisbane, ‘The Lampreys’ formed a little while after Dan Lean (guitar and vocals) and Paul Redfern (violin, banjo, and mandolin) began busking together in early 2016. Dan had previously written a bunch of songs, which developed into what would eventually become their debut LP. After a few open mic nights at a local bar, they realised that they liked what was happening, and decided to actually be a band. Whatever that even means.
Their first album, ‘Songs I Hate’, was the result of a week away up the coast, where the boys recorded, ate, and drank during all hours of the day and night. The result is a defiantly stark album; at times beautiful, at times depraved, but always sincere. The sounds you hear have been deliberately left unpolished, choosing to rely on the strength of songwriting rather than the production.
The Lampreys are excited to debut their music and start gigging regularly.
